My Top 5 Albums of 2008: No. 1 …Yes, That Girl From the Movies

She and Him — Volume 1: This is another album I ignored — for months and months, because, really, Zooey Deschanel? Stick to acting, sweetie. But then — in a desperate move to burn off the last of my monthly eMusic downloads, I gave in … and within days, Scott was threatening to light himself on fire if I didn’t stop playing it. It’s an unlikely pairing — an actress with indie rock bellwether M. Ward, but it works — it’s all sweet, retro twee goodness that I’ve never gotten sick of (except for the Sweet Chariot cover, which irks me). I’m eagerly awaiting the release of Volume 2, which is out there, and is coming, but no release date yet … but it could be a shoo-in for the 2009 edition of this list. (Available on eMusic with subscription / iTunes for $9.99)
Must-Download: Sentimental Heart, Sweet Darlin’, I Was Made for You, Black Hole, Change Is Hard, Why Do You Let Me Stay Here, I Should Have Known Better (yes, I did just listed 75% of the album)

Thanks for posting your list. eMusic must have gotten a lot better since I stopped using it, if they have all of this. The only one I have is Bon Iver, which is great. I’ve been using my xmas gift cards buying music, so this is just in time.
