My Top 5 Albums of 2008: No. 5 … No, I Can’t Stop You From Calling Them Bon-er Iver

Bon Iver — For Emma, Forever Ago: I treasure this album because it reminds me of the trip Scott and I took to Pittsburgh this year; while in town we were searching out a venue for live music, and Bon Iver (who we’d never heard of at that point) had played locally the night before we visited. I’m disappointed we missed it — it was recorded with tons of overdubbing, and lead singer Justin Vernon hands out lyrics for audience participation (not that I would’ve participated) to replicate the feel. Ignore the ugly cover art, the songs on this album are full of lush, pensive longing; while I’m listing my three favorite songs below, this is really one where you need the whole album to truly experience it. (Available on eMusic with subscription / iTunes for $7.99)
Must-Downloads: Flume, Skinny Love, For Emma
