The Rural Alberta Advantage — Hometowns:
This album just came out in November, so it’s hard to tell if it will truly stand the time test, but in the past month, I’ve had it in heavy rotation. I’ve seen the band compared to Neutral Milk Hotel, which is pretty accurate — lead singer Nils Edenloff’s voice comes the closest I’ve heard to to Jeff Mangum’s heart-wrenching, searching vibe. Another plus is female vocalist Amy Cole, who, on some songs, makes it seem like Rainer Maria’s Caithlin De Marrais wandered into a recording studio to lay down some tracks with NMH. In essence, it’s good stuff, but it’s still too early to have nabbed a true spot. (Available only on eMusic with subscription)
Must Downloads: Four Night Rider, The Deathbridge in Lethbridge, The Deadroads, Drain the Blood
