Things I Am Currently Liking, A Lot.

ESPN Magazine’s Cover Photo, December Issue
Ben Roethlisberger ESPN Cover
This came in the mail yesterday, and I immediately fawned all over it. It’s entirely predictable of me, because it has that ‘Ocean’s 11’ / ‘Reservoir Dogs’ sort of feel, but it’s so really well done — obviously not something Ben Roethlisberger actually posed for, but visual trickery.

Jon Hamm’s Gap Ad
Jon Hamm Gap Ad
Gap always seems to do a nice holiday ad campaign — in fact, two of my favorite Jasons are also featured this year (Bateman and Sudeikis) — but this one in particular caught my eye, because it’s just Jon Hamm as Jon Hamm and not Don Draper, which is fun in and of itself. Now if only Gap could make some clothes that don’t suck. (Seriously — do they have to do striped sweaters and scarves every winter?)

Thakoon’s Line for Target
Thakoon for Target Thakoon for Target Dress
It’s not even in stores yet, but I have earmarked the shirt at left, dress at right, and a skirt for immediate trying on and purchasing. It’s the first designer Target line I’ve been excited about since Richard Chai — I just hope the fabric quality is there (the most recent Jonathan Saunders line was entirely disappointing from that perspective).

Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’
Quite possibly the single of the year, as far as I’m concerned, though I’m not sure I love it as much as I love ‘Get Me Bodied.’ (And, to briefly soapbox, she performed the song — and the dance routine — in AOL’s studios recently, and it was awesome.) The first few times I watched the video, I got a little teary … which I realize sounds ridiculous, but when I see people who are truly talented dominating at their given talent, it makes me really happy. When I told Scott that, his response was “That’s why I love sports!” but it’s not quite the same thing.

Facebook
I got bored with Twitter.

My Upcoming Trip to Vegas
Thanksgiving can only truly be enjoyed in a casino.

I’ve noticed your lack of tweets. I use twitter to update my facebook status. Gary does the opposite.

  • rob says:

I also kinda migrated to facebook although I still twitter; I think of them differently. Twitter is more casual.

  • Ben says:

as opposed to the rigid formality of facebook.

I think I agree with Rob — I like to keep them separate, and though I’ve had a hard time articulating why, I think it’s that (or that I used to) feel freer to update Twitter more often. I don’t want to clutter Facebook (and all the people there who I truly know in real life) with inane stuff, because I can bring the inane stuff. That said, an issue with my BB kept me off Twitter altogether from early October until today … I’m not sure I’ll ever get back in the habit. For me, if it’s not personal, it has turned out to not be interesting.

  • Ben says:

Well, I think you’re both high. Gary, too, while we’re at it. 🙂

I don’t see how connecting the two clutters facebook. Most people will only ever see your latest status anyway, unless they go digging through all their friends’ statuses or go to your profile. I see no difference between facebook status update & twitter.
